Affordable 3D printing – how to get the lowest price
The price of a 3D print is driven by three things: material, time and set-up. Here are the easiest ways to keep the cost down – without making the part worse.
Choose the right material
PLA is the cheapest and fine for most indoor uses. More expensive materials such as TPU, carbon fibre or resin are only needed when the part requires their properties.
Choose a sensible infill
The outside is always solid, but the inside can be sparse. 15% infill is enough for decor and holders. More infill gives stronger parts but uses more material and time. The calculator shows straight away how the price changes.
Order several at once
The set-up fee is paid once per order, regardless of quantity. You also get a volume discount: 5 % from 5 pcs, 10 % from 10 pcs and 15 % from 20 pcs.
Think about size
Print time grows with height. If the part can be scaled down or split into two shorter parts, it’s often cheaper.
Avoid unnecessary support material
Where you live doesn’t affect the price of the print itself – shipping is calculated separately. What costs is material, print time and finishing. Parts with lots of overhangs need supports that take time to remove. If the part can be turned or split to reduce supports, it’s often cheaper – and we’re happy to help with that.
In short
- PLA and 15% infill = lowest price
- Combine several parts in one order
- Volume discount from 5 units
- You see the price instantly in the calculator
Frequently asked questions
What does the cheapest print cost?
It depends on size and material – upload the file in the price calculator and you see the price instantly. Shipping is extra.
Is a cheaper print worse?
No – the outside and dimensions are the same. Lower infill makes the part lighter and a little less strong.
How is shipping calculated?
Shipping is charged by the parcel’s size and weight. It’s worth combining several parts in one order.
